UNHCR: Dutch-language learning materials about refugees, asylum and migration

On this Dutch-language webpage of UNHCR , the United Nations refugee agency, you will find materials with which you can work as a teacher to welcome refugees in your class in a good way and to teach school children from six to eighteen years about refugees, asylum and migration.

On the site you will find free teaching materials about refugees, asylum, migration and statelessness. You can first and foremost consult the materials to keep yourself well informed about this theme, with the most recent figures and a clear explanation of basic concepts such as refugee, migrant and asylum seeker.

When teaching about this theme it is important that teachers and students understand that people can be on the run or migrate for various reasons. Refugees are people like you and me who live in exceptional circumstances.

You can then easily adjust the teaching materials yourself for use in your class. Teachers who have refugee children in their class can consult the teaching materials on stress and trauma and language skills.

Also read our advice on how best to deal with refugee children and how to involve their parents in teaching.
